According to this press release, the Kelley School of Business ranked first in entrepreneurship research. The interesting part of this press release notes that only three journals were used to make this determination and these were the Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. While these are all fine journals that specialize in entrepreneurship research, they are by no means the only outlets for entrepreneurship research. This journal article, An Assessment of Validity in Entrepreneurship Research, from the Journal of Entrepreneurship for example, reviewed over 200 journals and even has a nice table of some of the top journals and the frequency with which they publish entrepreneurship related research.
So while the Kelley School indeed has a good track record with Entrepreneurship Research, I can’t help but wondering if there is a better way to determine which schools produce the most (and highest quality?) output on entrepreneurship research.
Given today’s technology, it is not difficult to search hundreds of journals and filter for keywords like entrepreneurship, venture capital, small business, etc…. to get a fairly accurate assessment of which schools are producing the most entrepreneurship research. Certainly there must be a better way then just looking at three journals.
